How to screen record on Mac | You may quickly record the screen on your Mac for webinars, screencasts, and video tutorials. You may now record a video of your Mac’s screen using an integrated feature in macOS Mojave, released in September 2019.
Screen recording on Mac as of macOS Mojave
MacOS Mojave’s enlarged screenshot symbol toolbar makes it simple to start recording the screen on your MacBook or another device. This is due to Apple adding a screen recording option to its Mac screenshot tool.
The symbols toolbar’s controls are all activated by pressing the shift + command () + 5 keys simultaneously. Via the “Options” page, you can adjust the following parameters before you start screen record on Mac:
- Save as: When you’re done recording your video, specify where it should be saved automatically.
- Timer: Set the time at which the video shall begin.
- Microphone: You can record your voice or additional audio sources while your Mac is recording your screen. Just choose the appropriate microphone to accomplish this.
- Show floating thumbnail: When turned on, a little thumbnail of the captured video will show up in the lower right corner of the screen.
- Save final selection: By doing this, your most recent setting choice becomes the default for all future screen captures on your Mac.
- Blend-in mouse clicks use a black circle to represent mouse clicks in the screen capture.
Choose one of the following choices to start screen recording on your Mac after saving your settings:
Option 1: Guide about entire screen record on Mac
Click on the following icon to start recording your Mac’s complete screen:
Select the screen icon with the little record sign to begin full-screen video recording on your Mac.
Your mouse should now represent the camera icon. Choose the desired screen or click “Record” in the toolbar of symbols:

Option 2: Record a section of your screen
Sometimes recording a video of a portion of your Mac screen is sufficient. A quick fix for this is available from your Mac. Click on the following icon located in the symbols toolbar:

One of these three methods will allow you to stop screen recording on your MacBook or iMac. Click “Stop” in the Touch Bar or on the menu bar’s “Stop recording” icon:
Your Mac will stop recording your screen when you click the “Stop recording” icon.
Alternately, you can halt screen recording by hitting the keys command () + shift + ESC.

Tip
A tiny thumbnail will appear at the bottom right of the screen after the recording is complete. Without requiring any additional steps, the screen recording will be preserved. Click on the thumbnail to launch editing mode and cut or split the recording as desired.
Screen record on Mac before macOS Mojave
You can still record your Mac’s screen even if you still need to update to macOS Mojave or if your computer doesn’t support this version. A quick fix for this is available through the QuickTime Player.
Activate QuickTime Player. Under “File” in the menu bar, click “New Screen Recording”:
When you click on “New Screen Recording” from the QuickTime Player menu, you will activate screen recording on your Mac.
- Now, a popup titled “Screen Recording” will appear. To decide whether to screen record your Mac with audio and whether QuickTime Player should depict the mouse click in the recording as a black circle, use the small arrow next to the record button.
When you click on a screen region while holding down the red record button on QuickTime Player, your Mac will begin to be screen recorded. You can record your entire screen with this method.
- Click the red record button in QuickTime Player to capture the screen of your Mac. The full screen can then be recorded by clicking anywhere on the screen. Move the frame with your cursor and click the record button in that area if you only want to capture a portion of the screen.
- Stop the screen recording by hitting the keys command () + Control + Esc or by choosing the “Stop recording” icon in the menu bar.
- Once the recording is complete, QuickTime Player will open it instantly, making it even simpler to play, modify, or share your video.
